Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an adaptogenic root with over 3,000 years of use in Ayurvedic medicine and a growing body of controlled trial evidence. Its primary mechanism is modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis — the stress response system that governs cortisol secretion.
